Located in Schulyer County, N.Y., Painted Bar Stables is a just up the hill from Watkins Glen and a short drive from Ithaca. Our location directly on the Seneca Lake Wine Trail puts us in the midst of cascading waterfalls, breathless lake views and rolling glacier carved hills.
Established as the Painted Bar Stables in 2003, the stables changed ownership in early 2008. The new owner, Erika Eckstrom, has since brought new life to the stable, revitalizing the farm and doing needed renovations in order to make it into the local equine landmark that it had been in the 1960s and 1970s. Operating predominantly as a pleasure riding facility, we work to share our love of the surrounding area and the beauty that it offers. Painted Bar Stables offers a unique way to encounter the beauty of the Finger Lakes from horseback. The multiplicity of rides offered give different and unique ways to see the grandeur of the local landscape, whether it be in our back yard on shorter rides, in the Finger Lakes National Forest on longer adventures, or under the stars on our moonlight trail rides.
Erika's philosophy is simple: create an setting in which both people and horses are happy. By creating a realistic, educational and friendly environment focused on dream-realization, Erika has been able to offer unmatched care to both her horses and her clientele. This way of thinking is reflected in the temperament of the horses boarded at the facility and the tight-knit group of individuals that has come to support the stable's endeavors. The resulting community that has grown in the barn is an intimate mix, bringing young and old together to enjoy and learn from one another.
The Painted Bar Stables lives up to its name by producing the highest quality APHA painted and colored horses. Standing at stud is Sierras All The Gold, a 2002 Perlino homozygous creme tobiano stallion that is guaranteed to produce creme dilute offspring: buckskin, palomino, perlino and cremello. Painted Bar Stables is also home to the offspring of Pepsi Poco and other champion APHA and AQHA offspring.
